Take Me Back Tuesday - A Favorite Campsite In Tennessee

#TakeMeBackTuesday to one of our favorite campsites in 2019, at the Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground.

All we heard every morning when we woke up in our Airstream Flying Cloud here in Tennessee were birds. So peaceful.

Floral Art - "Yellow Daisy Study"

Here's a little experiment in simplification with some yellow daisies that I painted from life last week.

Kimberly bought these because she loves daisies. They're such cheerful flowers, they do really brighten things up, so of course I had to paint them. This piece is a lot looser than I would normally paint, but it is really all about color. - Patrick Saunders

Throwback Thursday - "Castle Rogue's Manor" Plein Air Painting - Eureka Springs, Arkansas

It's not every day that you get the opportunity to paint a castle in the woods.

This piece was created on a cold morning during the Eureka Springs School of the Arts 2017 Plein Air Festival.

Castle Rogue's Manor was built in Beaver, Arkansas in 1985, overlooking the White River. When visiting, it's easy to feel like you've been transported to somewhere other than north western Arkansas. - Patrick Saunders

Take Me Back Tuesday - The Day We Bought Our Airstream Flying Cloud

#takemebacktuesday to June 2017, when we moved on from our Baked Potato, an Airstream Bambi, to the Sweet Potato, a 25FB Flying Cloud.

Bill Thomas Camper Sales in Saint Louis, Missouri is still the best Airstream dealership in the country as far as we're concerned, and we have visited almost all of them!

Throwback Thursday - Patrick Saunders Fine Arts Plein Air Painting - "Enter the Garden"

Before the pandemic, Kimberly and I would visit botanical gardens throughout the country on a regular basis. I really miss that experience. Here's hoping we'll be back at it soon.

Here is one of my favorite garden paintings from Maymont in Richmond, Virginia. It was a narrow path, and I remember having to move out of the way for numerous visitors as they passed. All of them were very gracious once they realized what I was up to. - Patrick Saunders

Throwback Thursday - "Awaiting the Sun, Fleming Beach" - 2018

The chill of winter is in the air, so for #ThrowbackThursday, here’s a plein air painting I did in 2018 for the Maui Arts League’s Plein Air Painting Invitational that makes me feel warmer just looking at it.

I arrived at Fleming Beach early on this particular morning, and decided to paint the lifeguard station because I liked the way it was nestled among the palm trees, and because it tells the story of what this beach is so prized for. A steady stream of surfers stopped by to chat as I painted.

One of the surfers told me he really liked my painting, and wanted to buy it, because this beach is his favorite place in the world to surf. I thanked him for his interest, and didn’t think anything more of it, but sure enough, the surfer showed up to the awards ceremony, and took this painting home with him. - Patrick Saunders
