Plein Air Painting - Sol Duc River, Olympic National Park, Washington

Plein air painting in August can be brutal, unless you're in a spot where the weather is mild and the landscape is tranquil.

Patrick Saunders painted this one along the Sol Duc River in Olympic National Park near Port Angeles, Washington.

"Above & Below the Sol Duc” • Oil on Panel • 14" x 18” • Private Collection
Winner, Olympic National Park Rangers Interpretation Award

"This was the single most relaxing plein air experience I have ever had. The weather was perfect, and the only sound was the soft splashing of the water against the rocks." - Patrick
